Life's too short for the wrong job

Tue Aug 22, 2006, 7:05 PM

Hi everyone <3

I'm at my wit's end. I have a life and a career I want to change. I'm looking to furthur my studies, and have set my eye on the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, California, US.
There are many hurdles that I have to go through and I have looked at all opportunities and chances. But due to some rather extra big hurdles, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask for help again.

I wonder if any of you know of any international scholarships that I can apply for? I don't know about confidence in getting them, but it shall be worth a try and all the information I get will be very helpful. I would appreciate any other financial help suggestions too!

Any comments or thoughts that could be shared about AAU ([link] will also be very very welcome. Please reply here or note me, I will be very happy to hear of it, and perhaps you could help me understand the culture and life there, or help me with the numerous questions that I have but are too embarassed to ask the counsellors.

Ideas and comments about other universities will be very welcome too. I am looking to do a degree in Illustration, preferably in the US. Other places are okay too.

I would appreciate all help I can get regarding this matter!

I hope it will not come to this, but if you would like to help out financially, I shall have artbooks up for sale very very soon.

Love you all and I'm not dead! <3

Thank you so much to everyone who helped out with my previous journal entry! I have finally gotten my iMac, and she's gorgeous. She says hi! <3

i'm attending AAU for the next winter/sping semester and on to major in fine art/illustration (havent decided). i do agree that life is too short for the wrong job. it breaks my heart to see a talented fashion designer study web design or an inspired film maker studying engineering. i believe that the notion of money shouldn't get in the way of personal fulfillment. i'm a long time devwatcher, i hope we meet XD

dont feel like sorting thru 100+ comments so yeah >.>
I wanted to go to AAU really badly when i was in high school and considered going into art. I have changed my mind at this point, but its awesome that you wanna go there because it is a really great school. this is what i found on the financial aid they offer there, i hope it helps.

One thing to be wary of, I've heard SF's Academy of Art Univerity is not accredited - if you were to choose to change art schools while you're there, you can't transfer any of your credits. However, you probably won't, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Ahhh I don't think I will change art schools <3 but that's some really useful info, thank you!

I am actually ALSO interested in AAU. I'll probably never get in, though I have filled out the application, just not sent it in yet.
I wish I knew how to help, but the only thing I can think of is to contact them. They are really very nice- and try to chat them up about scholarships and the like.

It's a open uni, so you'll get in, don't worry ^_^ Hope to see you there!

Just another word of encouragement. If I have enough money, I'll be in line for your artbook, and I really encourage you to follow your dreams, I'm sure you'll become great. Always your fan!~

Good luck with San Fransisco, I'm sorry I'm afraid I don't really know much about scholarships, even less about international ones, but I wish you all the best, San Fransisco is a cool city, hope you enjoy it there. Take care!

Thank you very much :) I've test printed the artbook, and it should be about US$15-20, I hope that's affordable :).
